Islamic Artefacts in the Mediterranean World
Trade, Gifts Exchange and Artistic Transfera cura di Catarina Schmidt Arcangeli, Gerhard Wolf
This book aims to reconstruct the "biographies" of Islamic objects known to have circulated in the Mediterranean. Removed from their original contexts many islamic artefacts travelled widely and encountered a variety of circumstances which changed their identity and meaning. In the most cases, it is possible to establish the original location of their manufacture, their original function and their original significance. The book will use the term "Islamic", but on mant occasions it shall be extended to "Oriental", or perhaps be used to mean "originating in Muslim lands".
